KARACHI: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) has strongly opposed the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority’s (OGRA) recent decision to raise gas tariffs for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), warning that the move will exacerbate economic pressures on industries and households alike.
KATI President Ikram Rajput described the increase as unjustified in the current economic climate, highlighting that it unfairly burdens already struggling manufacturers and consumers. He noted that positive economic developments—such as a reduction in unaccounted-for gas (UFG) losses and declining interest rates—should have supported stable or lower tariffs instead.
Rajput appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to intervene immediately and reverse the tariff hike, emphasizing that higher gas costs could make Pakistani industries uncompetitive internationally and negatively impact export performance.
